About the Recipe

Palak Shorba is a healthy and nutritious spinach soup that is packed with flavors. This Indian soup is made with fresh spinach, onions, garlic, and spices, creating a vibrant and comforting dish.


  • Palak or Spinach: Fresh leaves - 2 big bunches

  • Vegetables:  Onion, ginger and garlic.

  • More vegetables: add your favourites like broccoli, carrots, cabbage, sweet corn, bell pepper and peas. (One bowl) I prefer just corn. Love the crunch as I soup in.

  • Butter: 1 tablespoon.

  • Seasonings: salt and pepper.

  • Lemon Juice: 1 freshly squeezed lemon

  • Cumin powder: 1 teaspoon

  • Milk: 50ml (optional)


  • Heat butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Add sliced onion, finely chopped ginger, garlic and saute for 30 secs until they turn translucent.

  • Add the washed spinach leaves. Don't cover the saucepan and cook for a few minutes until soft. Switch of flame and allow it to cool

  • Puree this spinach mixture and transfer back to the sauce pan.

  • Add 500 ml of water and vegetables and bring to boil.

  • Add seasoning

  • Switch off the flame and add the lime juice and sprinkle cumin powder.

  • Serve hot with a hot pulka or butter roti.

    Optional: Add 50 ml of milk if you like your shorba creamy.
